2024 Mercedes Sprinter vs Ford Transit

Small business owners and those who need to transport large groups appreciate having a vehicle that gets the job done. If you're in the market for a customizable van, check out the 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and the Ford Transit. While both models have a lot to offer, their differences can make one a better option than the other. We'll compare these two vans to help you decide which one suits your needs best.

Trims

With the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, you can choose between the Cargo, Crew, Cab Chassis, or Passenger models. Each version comes in several classes with different options for wheelbase length and roof height. The standard Sprinter Cargo van has a 144-inch wheelbase and a standard roof height. You can also choose the standard wheelbase with a high roof if you need to transport taller gear. A longer wheelbase option extends the length between the axles to 170 inches. This version also comes with a high roof, and you can get an extended wheelbase that provides even more room in the back.

While all Sprinter vans are capable, choosing the right vehicle class ensures your Sprinter can do what you need it to. This van comes in the following classes:

  • 2500.
  • 3500.
  • 3500XD.
  • 4500.

For the Ford Transit van, you have three trim levels to choose from: the Cargo, XL, and XLT. Each model offers three body lengths and three roof options to help you get the exact cargo or passenger capacity you need. Length choices are regular, long, or extended, and roof selections are low, medium, and high. You can choose your length and roof height regardless of the trim level.

Engine Specs

You have two engine options for the 2024 Sprinter van. The first is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that generates 170 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Upgrading will get you the high-output twin-turbo diesel engine that delivers an impressive 211 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque. You can choose the high-output engine with all-wheel drive if you want a little more grip on the road. Every engine works with a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission that makes the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter more efficient and quicker to respond when shifting gears.

The Ford Transit van offers two engine choices as well. The standard powertrain is a 3.5-liter V-6 that's capable of making 275 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. Your other option upgrades you to the 3.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine that creates 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for smooth gear changes.

If you plan to tow with your van, you'll want to opt for the high-output engine in the Sprinter van. This setup allows you to tow a maximum of 7,500 pounds and haul a payload of up to 6,812 pounds. The maximum towing capacity for the Ford Transit van is only 4,600 pounds, with a maximum payload capacity of just 3,478 pounds.

Dimensions and Space

Both the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and the Ford Transit can comfortably fit up to 15 passengers with the right options and layout. However, you can also customize either van to suit your specifications. You'll find the most cargo space in the 2024 Sprinter van, as the longest wheelbase provides as much as 533 cubic feet of space behind the front row. In the Ford Transit van, you can get up to 461.9 cubic feet of cargo space with the right configuration.

No matter what you're using your Sprinter van for, there's the perfect configuration. So, whether you're hauling the team to the championship game miles from Temecula, California, or you want your wheels to be a mobile workspace for your small business, you can design the van to meet your unique needs.

Interior Design

Because you can customize the interior of both the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and the Ford Transit, the interior design possibilities are endless. In the 2024 Sprinter van, you'll discover intuitive technology that keeps you connected to your clients, employees, or family members. Use the Mercedes me connect app to interact with your van through your computer or smartphone. This handy technology lets you find your van on a map, lock or unlock the vehicle remotely, and manage maintenance and repair schedules from anywhere.

A standard 7-inch or optional 10.25-inch touch screen uses hands-free technology to let you connect with the world from the comfort of the driver's seat. The simple smartphone integration makes it easy to connect your smartphone to your van so you don't miss out on any information coming your way.

In the Ford Transit van, you can use the available SYNC 4 infotainment system and upgraded 12-inch touch screen to make it easy to stay in touch with anyone you need to communicate with frequently. This infotainment system works with Apple CarPlay to ensure you can use all your favorite apps.

Safety and Security Options

You want to keep your employees and family safe no matter where the road takes you. With the advanced safety technologies and driver-assist features in the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, you'll feel secure taking to the roads and highways around Temecula.
